Poster Contest

General Information: The contest has five categories: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. The Gulf Coast Soil and Water Conservation District will award the following prizes in each category: 1st Place- $50.00, 2nd Place- $25.00, and 3rd Place- $10.00. Each categories 1st place local district winner will be entered in the state competition, which will be judged by a small panel of judges. In the state competition 1st winners will be awarded with $75.00 and 2nd place winners will receive $50.00. The 1st place winners in the state contest will be sent to the national poster competition, where they will compete in the national level. National 1st place winners receive $100 and 2nd place winners receive $75.

The Annual Poster Contest for 2017 will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Lake Charles USDA Service Center. Deadline for posters to be submitted for the contest will be Monday, November 6, 2017 at 3:00pm. The judges have not yet been determined. Please use the forms and material below.

This year’s theme is:

State Level

This year the State Level Poster Contest Judging was held on Wednesday November 16, 2016 at 12:00PM in the Conference Room of the Lake Charles USDA Service Center located at 5417 Gerstner Memorial Drive, Lake Charles, LA 70607. The judges this year were: Mr. Tanner Fontenot (Vegetative Technician for Gulf Coast SWCD), Mrs. Beth Gentry (Retired Teacher), and Mr. Kim Landry (Retired LSU AgCenter Agent). The judges were given a score sheet and asked to judge each poster on an individual basics. The judging critia were as followed: (posters could earn up to) 10 pts for Correct Theme on Poster, 40 pts for Conservation Message, 30 pts for Visual Effectiveness, 10 pts for Originality, and 10 pts for Universal Appeal. The judges were not allowed to view the back of the poster which was where the participants information was located.

Following the judging, the scores were placed into an excel spread and the winners were determined as followed:

The Annual Poster Contest for 2016 was held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Lake Charles USDA Service Center. The judges this year were: Ms. Brittany Bourg (Assistant Extension Agent at the Cameron Parish LSU AgCenter), Mrs. Andrea Gorum (Vegetative and WRE Technician for Gulf Coat SWCD), and Mr. Bradley Pousson (Extension Agent at the Cameron Parish LSU AgCenter). The judges were presented with 12 total entries from the following school(s):

The judges this year were: Mrs. Patti Busby (Program Technician for the Lake Charles FSA Office) and Mrs. Deirdre Lemelle(Program Technician for the Lake Charles FSA Office). The judges were given a score sheet and asked to judge each poster on an individual basics. The judging critia were as followed: (posters could earn up to) 50 pts for Conservation Message, 30 pts for Visual Effectiveness, 10 pts for Originality, and 10 pts for Universal Appeal. The judges were not allowed to view the back of the poster which was where the participants information was located.
