Poster Contest

This year’s theme is

NACD is offering 3 categories for student entries: 

General Hand Drawn: Open to kindergarten through 12th grade students registered in Calcasieu or Cameron Parishes. Posters submitted under this category must be created by an individual student. 

Additional Assist: Open to kindergarten through 12th grade students registered in Calcasieu or Cameron Parishes who require additional assistance in completing a poster. Posters must be created by an individual student. While adult assistance is allowed in this
category, the entry must reflect the contestant’s original creation and may not be traced from
photographs or other artists’ works.

Braille: Open to kindergarten through 12th grade students registered in Calcasieu or Cameron Parishes who are blind or have low vision. This category provides a platform for students to express their creativity and conservation messages through Braille and tactile or mixed media elements. 

Poster Size: Accepted sizes range from 8.5×11 to poster board. However, it is encouraged to keep the size small to reduce expense input from the student/school and so that if an entry is selected to compete at the national level details can be easily seen in the scanned pdf format. 

Allowable Media: For General Hand Drawn and Additional Assist any traditional media may be used, including paint, crayon, colored pencil, charcoal, stickers, paper, or other flat materials. Mixed media art is welcome. For Braille any media may be used for tactile elements, including Braille, raised textures, and other
materials.

THE FULL THEME MUST BE VISIABLE ON THE POSTER. AS WELL AS SPELLED CORRECTLY AND PORTRAYED IN THE CORRECT ORDER.

All three contest have five categories: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. The Gulf Coast Soil and Water Conservation District will award the following prizes (via Visa Gift Card or Walmart Gift Card) in each category of each contest: 1st Place- $50.00, 2nd Place- $25.00, and 3rd Place- $10.00.

Each contest’s categories 1st place local district winner will be entered in the state competition. In the state competition, the general poster contest’s 1st place winners will be awarded with $75.00 and 2nd place winners will receive $50.00, the braille poster contest will have 1 over-all winner that will be awarded $75.00, but unfortunately this year there will be no state award for the additional assist poster contest. However, all contest 1st place winners in the state contest will be sent to the national poster competition, where they will compete in their respective contest at the national level for 1st place and a prize of $200.00, 2nd place and a prize of $150.00, and 3rd place and a prize of $100.00.

The local contest will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025; therefore, entry deadline will be Friday, November 7, 2025, by 4:00pm. Entries can be dropped off or emailed in pdf form. 

ALL ENTRIES MUST HAVE AN ENTRY FORM. 

The state contest will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
